A special taste of Homecoming
23/03/2009
A special flavour of Arran Dairies Ice Cream was launched at Brodick Castle today to promote Homecoming 2009.
A Homecoming Ice Cream - traditional Arran ice cream rippled with island blackcurrants and heather honey - has been developed as part of the celebrations.
Arran Dairies supply ice cream to tourism businesses on the island and in 2008 won the National Ice Cream Awards Diploma of Merit. The new flavour is available in four-litre cartons.
Homecoming 2009 marks the 250th anniversary of the birth of National Bard Robert Burns and celebrates Scotland's great contributions to the world: Golf, Whisky, Great Scottish minds and innovations, our rich ancestry, culture and heritage and Burns himself.
First Minister Alex Salmond said:
"Homecoming 2009 is shaping up to be the biggest celebration of Scottish culture, heritage and innovation yet and I am delighted that Arran Dairies have launched this fantastic new flavour to mark the year of events.
"As we look towards Spring and Summer I am delighted that some of the hundreds and thousands of visitors taking part in our Homecoming celebrations will get a taste of this wonderful new product.
"One of the most important aspects of Homecoming 2009 is corporate engagement and I am pleased that Arran Dairies has developed a special product for Scotland's Homecoming Year."
Managing Director of Arran Dairies and Taste of Arran Alistair Dobson said:
"Lots of our customers have been asking for a while if we were making anything special for 2009 - it seems that many restaurants are developing menus with a real Scottish theme, so we wanted to give them a product that encapsulates all that is great about Arran."
