With Christmas over for another year, Scots have been reminded that there are a number of card recycling schemes around the country.
With new research showing that 76 per cent of people plan to recycle their Christmas cards, Environment Secretary Richard Lochhead has urged the rest of the country to follow suit.
Mr Lochhead said:
"Millions of Christmas cards are given to friends and family every year and they are undoubtedly a great way of keeping in touch and spreading seasonal cheer.
"However, in order to minimise the environmental impact of Christmas, it vital that once the season draws to a close our cards are disposed of properly, and this means recycling.
"The research we are publishing today makes for encouraging reading with more than three quarters of Scots planning to recycle their cards.
"The Woodland Trust, together with Waste Aware Scotland, will launch their annual campaign early in the New Year, with all concerned hoping for continued success in 2009.
"And there will be other schemes up and running - it couldn't be simpler."
