Settlement agreement reached

Scottish Ministers and Scottish Health Boards have reached settlement with a further major international pharmaceutical company of their civil claims for alleged anti-competitive conduct between 1996 and 2000 in connection with the supply of drugs to the NHS.
Generics (UK) Ltd have agreed, on a full and final basis and without admission of liability, to pay £2.31 million in compensation to Scottish Ministers and Scottish Health Boards.
Cabinet Secretary for Health and Wellbeing, Nicola Sturgeon, said:
"The settlement we have agreed today is good news for the NHS. The Scottish Government remains committed to sustaining and improving the health and wellbeing of the people of Scotland."
Neil Billing, Head of Service at NHSScotland Counter Fraud Services, added: "We are happy to have participated in the settlement process".
In February 2005, the Scottish Ministers and Scottish Health Boards lodged claims in the civil courts in England against a number of companies, for alleged price-fixing between 1996 and 2000 in respect of the following generic drugs - Warfarin, Ranitidine and Penicillin-based drugs.
