Health services in Shetland
20/10/2008
Public Health Minister Shona Robison celebrated success on a visit to Shetland today.
The Minister presented prizes to winners of NHS Shetland's art competition before handing out the awards at the Healthy Working Lives Awards.
Ms Robison visited Lerwick to chair NHS Shetland's annual review meeting.
Ms Robison said:
"I believe it is right that those who manage our NHS boards can be held to account in public in a more open and transparent way.
"The annual review process allows for credit to be given where it's due, but also for issues to be tackled and improvements to be driven forward.
"At this year's annual reviews, additional time has been allocated to enable more questions to be put by members of the public attending the review.
"I see these meetings as a chance to question those making the key decisions in health board areas who are shaping the way services are delivered to people across Scotland. I hope people from Shetland will attend the review and will take the opportunity to ask questions about their health service."
NHS Shetland chairman Betty Fullerton said:
"We welcome the Minister's visit with her team and the opportunity to show them how we provide NHS services here, demonstrate successes and discuss with her the challenges of providing those services in a remote island setting.
"It is particularly appreciated that the Minister takes the time to travel to Shetland and see for herself life here and how important the NHS is to these islands."
