Dumfries and Galloway NHS Board

Cabinet Secretary for Health and Wellbeing Nicola Sturgeon today announced the new appointment of the Chair of Dumfries and Galloway NHS Board.

Ms Sturgeon said:

"I am very pleased to announce this appointment. Mr Mike Keggans has shown strong commitment to public service and has demonstrated a clear understanding of the issues being faced within NHSScotland. His wealth of experience and knowledge will be extremely valuable. I look forward to working with him in the vital task of improving the health of the people of Scotland."

Mr Mike Keggans is currently in his second term on the Board of NHS Dumfries and Galloway, having served as a non-executive member since 2002. He was Chairman of Scottish Enterprise Dumfries and Galloway until March 2008, and served on the Dumfries and Galloway Community Planning Joint Board. He is also Chair of the Dumfries and Galloway Local Economic Forum. In the private sector he has held a number of senior executive positions including Regional Director with weekly newspaper publishers Scottish and Universal Newspapers (part of Trinity Mirror), and Managing Director of the Galloway Gazette Group. He does not hold any other ministerial appointments.

This appointment will be for a period of four years from October 1, 2008 to September 30, 2012.

This post is part-time with a time commitment of three days per week for which the annual remuneration is £28,548.

Dumfries and Galloway NHS Board is responsible for the strategic planning of health services and the development of measures to improve the health of the community in the Dumfries and Galloway region.

This Ministerial appointment was made in accordance with Commissioner for Public Appointments in Scotland (OCPAS) Code of Practice.

All appointments are made on merit and political activity plays no part in the selection process. However, in accordance with the original Nolan recommendations, there is a requirement for appointees' political activity (if any declared) to be made public. Mr Keggans has not been involved in any political activity within the last five years.
