Manufactured exports estimates - Quarter 2, 2008

Scotland's Chief Statistician today announced the release of the Scottish Manufactured Exports Estimates for the Second Quarter of 2008.
This quarterly publication measures growth, in real terms, of overseas exports by manufacturing companies located in Scotland.
The main findings are:
- There was no change in the level of Scottish manufactured export sales in the second quarter of 2008 (seasonally adjusted). The level of Scottish manufactured export sales decreased by 0.1 per cent in real terms over the year to 2008 Q2
- Over the quarter, growth in exports were observed in engineering and allied industries (+1.4 per cent), wood, paper, publishing & printing (+5.4 per cent), metals & metal products (+1.6 per cent), and other manufacturing (+8.7 per cent). Declines in export sales were observed in food, drink & tobacco (-2.5 per cent), chemicals, coke, refined petroleum & nuclear fuel (-5.2 per cent), and textiles, fur & leather (-6.6 per cent).
- Over the year to June 2008, export sales in the wood, paper, publishing & printing industries grew by 13.9 per cent in real terms. Export sales of metals & metal products (+12.9 per cent), and food, drink & tobacco (+1.9 per cent) also grew over the year. Chemicals, coke, refined petroleum & nuclear fuel (-7.3 per cent), engineering & allied industries (-1.3 per cent), textiles, fur & leather (-6.1 per cent), and other manufacturing (-1.3 per cent) all showed a fall in export sales over the year
