Inspectorate of Prosecution
02/09/2008
The Inspectorate of Prosecution in Scotland published its third Annual Report today.
The report comments on the work of the independent Inspectorate of Prosecution (IPS) in Scotland since its creation as a statutory body by the Criminal Proceedings etc. (Reform) (Scotland) Act 2007.
Future work for the IPS over the next year will include the publication of a thematic review into the use of Fiscal Fines as part of Summary Justice Reform and a report, in conjunction with Her Majesty's Inspectorate of Constabulary, on asset recovery.
Her Majesty's Chief Inspector of Prosecution Joe O'Donnell said:
"The third Annual Report of the Inspectorate of Prosecution in Scotland outlines its work to date. Much has been achieved to develop the role of the Inspectorate over the past year and published work includes three thematic reviews on complaints against the police, liaison in deaths and (in conjunction with Her Majesty's Inspectorate of Police) on Wildlife Crime.
"The first two of the wide ranging new Area Fiscal reports, on Dumfries and Galloway and Grampian, were also published and the initial cycle of office inspections was completed.
"I look forward to progressing the IPS over the next year by focusing on specific areas of performance and continuing to work in a dynamic way to encourage sharing of best practice and recommending improvements in service delivery."
The Inspectorate of Prosecution in Scotland (IPS) is the independent Inspectorate for the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service (COPFS). The IPS was established in 2003.
The principal functions of the IPS are to secure the inspection of the operation of COPFS and to report to the Lord Advocate on any matter connected with the operation of COPFS which the Lord Advocate refers to it.
The Inspectorate of Prosecution in Scotland (IPS) reports directly to the Lord Advocate with its recommendations.
