Cabinet meets in Inverness

05/08/2008

The Scottish Cabinet will meet in Inverness today - the second of four meetings which are being held outside Edinburgh this summer.

Ministers were in Dumfries a week ago, and will meet in Pitlochry and Skye later this month before the new Parliamentary session begins.

Ahead of the visit to Inverness, First Minister Alex Salmond said:

"The first historic meeting of the Scottish Government's Cabinet in Dumfries was a huge success and a great start to our programme of Cabinet meetings and events outside of Edinburgh this summer.

"Next week's meeting will be held in the very room where Lloyd George summoned an emergency Cabinet in 1921.

"The Scottish Government's Cabinet is meeting in Inverness for the sole reason of taking Government closer to the people and taking every opportunity we can to maintain our dialogue with the people we represent and hearing about the local and national issues which are important to them.

"We have a full two-day programme of visits and events around the Cabinets to allow us to meet and engage with as many people as possible. Ministers and I are looking forward to meeting the people of Inverness and what I have no doubt will be a very productive visit to the area."
