Cabinet meets in Dumfries

29/07/2008

This Scottish Cabinet meets in Dumfries today, the first time it has met formally outside Edinburgh.

The meeting is the first in a series of Cabinet events to be held outside the capital city during July and August. The programme will also take in Inverness, Pitlochry and Skye with the aim of giving local communities a greater opportunity to speak directly to Ministers about issues of local and national importance.

Minister hosted a 'good causes' reception in Dumfries last night and today, after the Cabionet meeting, a National Conversation question and answer session with members of the public and representatives from local civic organisations will take place.

First Minister Alex Salmond said:

"Taking Cabinet to areas like Dumfries and Galloway is an excellent way for us to meet with local communities and listen to their concerns and ambitions for Scotland. We have a full two-day programme of visits and events around the Cabinets to allow us to engage with as many people as possible."
