Appointments to Fife NHS Board

29/07/2008

Two non-executive members have been appointed to Fife NHS Board.

Cabinet Secretary for Health and Wellbeing Nicola Sturgeon today announced the appointments of Ms Alison Rooney and Mr David Stewart.

Ms Rooney is the Chief Executive (designate) of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, having previously held a number of posts within the public and private sectors. Resident in Fife for some 20 years, she has worked in a voluntarily capacity with community-based groups in her local Kincardine area. Ms Rooney's experience includes health care, governance, finance and running public services within large, complex organisations. She does not hold any other ministerial appointments.

Mr Stewart has served as a non-executive member of Fife NHS Board since 1998 and his second term of appointment comes to an end on October 31, 2008. However, following his success at a recent open competition for non-executive member positions to Fife NHS Board, he will now serve a further term. Mr Stewart is a Telecommunications Consultant and was formerly Technical Director of Integrated Communications (Scotland) Ltd and Managing Director of Soneric Communications Ltd.

Ms Rooney's appointment will be for a period of four years from August 1, 2008 to July 31, 2012 and Mr Stewart's appointment will be for a period of three years from November 1, 2008 to October 31, 2011.

These posts are part-time with a time commitment of 8 hours per week for which the annual remuneration is £7,748.

Fife NHS Board is responsible for the strategic planning of health services and the development of measures to improve the health of the community in the Fife region.

These Ministerial appointments were made in accordance with Commissioner for Public Appointments in Scotland (OCPAS) Code of Practice.

All appointments are made on merit and political activity plays no part in the selection process. However, in accordance with the original Nolan recommendations, there is a requirement for appointees' political activity (if any declared) to be made public. Within the last five years, none of the above appointees have been involved in any political activity.
