Follow up of school leavers 2006-07

Scotland's Chief Statistician today published statistics on the follow up destinations of young people who left school in school year 2006-07.

This is the first time that this information has been published and provides information on young people's status in March-April 2008, approximately nine months after leaving school.

The main findings from the publication show that of the school leavers in 2006-07:

  • 87.0 per cent were in positive destinations in the March/April of 2008
  • 47.9 per cent were in higher or further education in March/April
  • 38.8 per cent were in employment or training in March/April
  • The proportion who were not in employment, education or training or voluntary work in March/April 2008 was 13.0 per cent
  • The proportion who were in a positive destination in both September 2007 and March/April 2008 was 80.3 per cent with a further 12.5 per cent in a positive destination in one of the two periods
  • Only 6.8 per cent were not in a positive destination in both September 2007 and March/April 2008
