National Museums Scotland appointment

Linda Fabiani, the Minister for Europe, External Affairs and Culture, today announced the extension of appointment of Mrs Neena Mahal on the Board of Trustees of National Museums Scotland.
Mrs Neena Mahal is a freelance training consultant specialising in the fields of equality, personal and organisational development. She has a background in education, careers advice and community development work. She is a Trustee Member of the BBC Children in Need Appeal, and a Member of Lanarkshire NHS Board and Chair of its South Lanarkshire Community Health Partnership for which she receives £15,494 remuneration.
This appointment will be for an additional 18 months and will run from April 1, 2008 to September 30, 2009.
This post is part-time and attracts no remuneration for a time commitment of one day per month. She holds no other Ministerial appointments.
National Museums Scotland is Scotland's national museums service. NMS is committed to enhancing public services and to make collections more widely accessible. It is currently undertaking a £46m project to transform the Royal Museum by July 2011, integrating it with the modern architecture of the adjacent Museum of Scotland to become a world-class museum known simply as the National Museum Scotland. This will enable NMS to present a breadth and depth of collections that will rival most national museums in Europe
This Ministerial public appointment was made in accordance with the Commissioner for Public Appointments in Scotland's Code of Practice.
All appointments are made on merit and political activity plays no part in the selection process. However, in accordance with the original Nolan recommendations, there is a requirement for appointees' political activity (if there is any to be declared) to be made public. Mrs Mahal declared that she is involved in no political activity.
