2014 Games legacy

29/05/2008

The people of Perth are being asked what legacy they want from the 2014 Commonwealth Games at an event in the town next week.

The event takes place in the Dewars Centre, Glover Street on Monday, June 2 between 1830 and 2000.

Scottish Government staff will make a brief presentation about the development of a Commonwealth Games legacy, which will be followed by a discussion session.

Anyone wishing to attend should call Claire McKenna on 0131 244 0993 or email: glasgow2014legacy@scotland.gsi.gov.uk

The Scottish Government will publish an interim action plan towards the end of this year, and a Commonwealth Games Legacy Plan in summer 2009.

Minister for Communities and Sport, Stewart Maxwell, said:

"I hope that as many people as possible turn out in Perth next week. We want to hear their views on what they want from the 2014 Games.

"This Government has always made clear that hosting the 2014 Games is not just about hosting a two-week sporting festival.

"It presents Scotland with great opportunities to make real improvements to people's lives, to raise our sights as a nation and regenerate communities across Scotland.

"We need individuals, groups and organisations to examine our proposals rigorously, and to think creatively about how the Games can help in their area."
