Cabinet Secretary for Health and Wellbeing Nicola Sturgeon today announced the appointment extensions of Professor Colin Suckling as Chair of the Scottish Advisory Committee on Distinction Awards and Mr David Campbell as Chair of NHS National Services Scotland Board.
Scottish Advisory Committee on Distinction Awards
Professor Colin Suckling is Freeland Professor of Chemistry at the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow. In addition to his ongoing research and teaching in medicinal chemistry at the University, he is a member of the Court of the University of the West of Scotland and the founder chair of the West of Scotland Schools Orchestra Trust.
He has served as a member of the former Senate of Surgery of Great Britain and Ireland and the Joint Committee on Higher Surgical Training and currently leads the Lay Advisory Board of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow. He does not hold any other ministerial appointments.
This appointment extension will be for a period of 18 months from November 1, 2008 to February 28, 2010.
The position requires a commitment of around 100 days per year for which the annual remuneration is £12,168.
The Scottish Advisory Committee on Distinction Awards advises the Cabinet Secretary for Health and Wellbeing and Scottish Ministers which specialists engaged in the NHS in Scotland should receive awards for professional distinction.

Mr David Campbell has over twenty years experience at Board level as both Chief Executive and Chair of a variety of different companies in both the private and public sectors, including the Health Education Board for Scotland, the Scottish Industrial Development Advisory Board, Scottish & Universal Newspapers and Clyde Cable Television.
He represented Scotland on the Boards of the New Opportunity Fund and the Big Lottery Fund and is Chairman of the Prince's Scottish Youth Business Trust in Ayrshire. He does not hold any other ministerial appointments.
This appointment extension will be until such times as a successor is recruited. It is expected that this appointment round will be completed by July 31, 2008.
This post is part-time with a time commitment of three days per week for which the annual remuneration is £24,180.

These Ministerial appointment extensions were made in accordance with Commissioner for Public Appointments in Scotland (OCPAS) Code of Practice.
All appointment extensions are made on merit and political activity plays no part in the selection process. However, in accordance with the original Nolan recommendations, there is a requirement for appointees' political activity (if any declared) to be made public. Within the last five years, neither Professor Suckling or Mr Campbell have been involved in any political activity.
