Tartan Day Parade

05/04/2008

Scotland Week in the US comes to an end today with the 10th annual Tartan Day parade through the streets of New York.

First Minister Alex Salmond and other Ministers from the Scottish Government will be among the participants marking the culmination of a week of events celebrating Scottish and Scottish-American culture.

The parade's grand marshall is Lawrence Tynes, kicker for the Superbowl winning New York Giants American football team, who was born in Greenock.

Mr Salmond said:

"The Tartan Day Parade on 6th Avenue is always a great focal point of the celebrations and I will be delighted to represent the Scottish Government."
