Membership of NHS Boards

Cabinet Secretary for Health and Wellbeing Nicola Sturgeon today announced the re-appointment of a number of NHS Board Members across NHS Scotland.
AYRSHIRE AND ARRAN NHS BOARD
Dr David Price is a self employed engineer, working primarily as an Editor for various worldwide technical publications. He worked for British Steel for many years in a variety of technical and senior management roles and was previously secretary of the Arran Health Services Consultative Committee - a voluntary sector role. He has been a member of Ayrshire and Arran NHS Board since 2004 and does not hold any other ministerial appointments.
Mrs Kirsty Darwent is a Family Psychotherapist largely involved in training and supervision. Within the community she is a Practitioner working with the Breastfeeding Network and holds leadership roles within the organisation. She has been a member of Ayrshire and Arran NHS Board since 2004 and does not hold any other ministerial appointments.
Mr Martin Cheyne is retired and has a number of voluntary positions including Chair of Court at Glasgow Caledonian University, Trustee of Lloyds TSB Foundation for Scotland and Chair of Ayrshire Council on Alcohol. He has been a member of Ayrshire and Arran NHS Board since 2004 and does not hold any other ministerial appointments.
The appointments will be for a period of four years from April 1, 2008 to March 31, 2012.
The posts are part time with a time commitment of eight hours per week for which the annual remuneration is £7,748.

FORTH VALLEY NHS BOARD
Dr Karen Facey is a self-employed Evidence Based Health Policy Consultant, specialising in the assessment of interventions for health services around the world. She is a Chartered Statistician, Fellow of Royal Society of Medicine and Honorary Member of the Faculty of Public Health. Dr Facey is a member on the UK Committee on Safety of Devices, and chairs an International Health Policy Forum and an interest group in Patient/Citizen Involvement. Until 2007, she chaired the NHSScotland Resource Allocation Committee. She has been a Member of Forth Valley NHS Board since 2004 and does not hold any other ministerial appointments.
This appointment will be for a period of four years from April 1, 2008 to March 31, 2012. The post is part time with a time commitment of eight hours per week for which the annual remuneration is £7,748.
Forth Valley NHS Board is responsible for the strategic planning of health services and the development of measures to improve the health of the community in the Forth Valley region.
GRAMPIAN NHS BOARD
Mrs Elizabeth McDade has been a member of Grampian NHS Board since 2004 and has particular interests and responsibilities around Patient Focus and Public Involvement (PFPI) and the Acute Sector. She lives and works in Aberdeen City predominantly in the voluntary sector. Her work over the last ten years has involved health and social care issues most especially in the area of informal carers and in particular to developing an agenda where the NHS and carers can work together in partnership. She currently serves, both locally and nationally, on a variety of voluntary and statutory committees relating to carers and respite issues, and chairs a number of these. Prior to this her experience was in the offshore oil and gas industry where she spent many years as Personnel Manager for an offshore service company and had responsibility for several locations within the UK. She does not hold any other ministerial appointments.

GREATER GLASGOW AND CLYDE NHS BOARD
Mrs Elinor Smith is Chair of the West of Scotland NHS Employees Credit Union and a member of the Inverclyde Alliance Board. A former senior banker with Bank of Scotland, her previous experience includes non executive directorships with Scottish Enterprise Glasgow and Scottish Health Innovations Ltd. She is also a non executive director with the Scottish Prison Service. Mrs Smith has been a member of Greater Glasgow and Clyde NHS Board since 2004 and does not hold any other ministerial appointments.
Mr Gerry McLaughlin is UK Director for British Red Cross. He joined Red Cross in 2000 from Royal National Institute for the Blind where he was Assistant Director, Scotland. His previous experience includes twenty years as a local authority social worker and manager becoming Principal Officer for Child Protection with Glasgow City Council in 1996. He has been a member of Greater Glasgow and Clyde NHS Board since 2004 and is currently Chair of East Dunbartonshire Community Health Partnership. He does not hold any other ministerial appointments.
Ms Rani Dhir MBE is Executive Director of Drumchapel Housing Cooperative Ltd., a Registered Social Landlord. Ms Dhir is also a non-executive Director of Communities Scotland for which she receives £285 per meeting and is Chair of the Regulation Board for Scotland for all Registered Social Landlords and Housing Functions of Local Authorities. This appointment will cease on March 31, 2008. She has been a member of Greater Glasgow and Clyde NHS Board since 2004 and is currently Chair of West Dunbartonshire Community Health Partnership. She is also currently a trustee of two Black and Minority Ethnic led organisations - PATH (Scotland), which supports training and employment and Ankur Arts which supports artistic productions. She has held a number of other positions in the Private, Public and Independent Sectors including non-executive Director Lloyds TSB Scotland Bank, Council Member of the Scottish Federation of Housing Associations, Board Member of Scottish Homes, Member of the Cities Review Group, Trustee of Lloyds TSB Foundation for Scotland, as well assisting a number of other Registered Social Landlords in Scotland both in a voluntary and professional capacity.
Mrs Jessica Murray was formerly head teacher of a primary school in the Drumchapel area of the city and in that capacity worked closely with Social Work Sevices and local voluntary oganisations. She was also involved with Greater Glasgow NHS Board in the establishment of school breakfast clubs. She has a special interest in child and family health. Mrs Murray has been a member of the Board since 2004 and does not hold any other ministerial appointments.
Miss Amanda Paul is Planning and Development Officer with Lanarkshire Community Justice Authority, a partnership organisation committed to reducing reoffending. Previously Miss Paul worked in Social Work planning and in the direct provision of Social Care services. She has also previously served as a member of the children's' hearing system in Glasgow and as a non-executive director of Margaret Blackwood Housing Association. She has been a member of Greater Glasgow and Clyde NHS Board since 2004 and does not hold any other ministerial appointments.
Mr John Bannon MBE has over 20 years experience of the NHS both as a user and having served on various NHS Boards including, Glasgow Dental Hospital and School NHS Trust and the North Glasgow NHS Trust. Mr Bannon is also a former Vice Chairman of the Greater Glasgow Health Council and serves on various community and voluntary sector bodies as well as being a Justice of the Peace. He has been a member of Greater Glasgow and Clyde NHS Board since 2004 and does not hold any other ministerial appointments.
These appointments will be for a period of four years, with the exception of Mr Bannon's whose appointment will be for a period of two years. All appointments will be from April 1, 2008. The posts are part time with a time commitment of eight hours per week for which the annual remuneration is £7,748.

HIGHLAND NHS BOARD
Ms Pam Courcha is self employed as a counsellor and consultant. For 6 years she was a Board Member of the Commission for the Regulation of Care and has held various committee positions in voluntary organisations over many years. Her previous experience includes academic appointments in housing and she was for seven years the Scottish Director of the Chartered Institute of Housing. She has two young adult children with complex disabilities. She has been a member of Highland NHS Board since 2004 and does not hold any other Ministerial appointments.
Dr Vivian Shelley has had a long career in education, mainly in the tertiary sector. She was the Director of Lifelong Learning at the University of Durham from 1995-2001 and the Continuing Professional Development Officer at the University of Glasgow from 2002-2005. Dr Shelley was a member of the Board of Argyll College, one of the academic partners in the UHI Millennium Institute, from January 2006-July 2007. She has been a member of Highland NHS Board since 2004 and is currently Chair of the Board's Clinical Governance Committee and sits on the Board's Risk Management Steering Group. She is also a member of the Argyll and Bute CHP Clinical Governance and Risk Management Group and its e-Health Steering Group. She does not hold any other ministerial appointments.
Ms Courcha's appointments will be for a period of four years from April 1, 2008 to March 31, 2012 and Dr Shelley's appointment will be for a period of four years from June 1, 2008 to May 31, 2012. The posts are part time with a time commitment of eight hours per week for which the annual remuneration is £7,748.

LANARKSHIRE NHS BOARD
Mrs Neena Mahal is a freelance training consultant specialising in the fields of equality, personal and organisational development. As a qualified careers adviser she has a background in education and community development work and has served on a number of committees promoting social inclusion and initiatives for young people. Mrs Mahal is a former member of the Broadcasting Council for Scotland. She is a Trustee Member of the BBC Children in Need Appeal and a Trustee of National Museums Scotland, for which she receives no remuneration. She has been a member of Lanarkshire NHS Board since 2004.
Mr Terry Currie is Senior Director, Growing Business at Scottish Enterprise. A Deputy Lieutenant of the County of Lanark, he is also a non-executive board member of Scottish Business in the Community and New Lanarkshire, which co-ordinates the local civic pride campaign. He has been a member of Lanarkshire NHS Board since 2004 and does not hold any other ministerial appointments.

LOTHIAN NHS BOARD
Mr Steve Renwick is Managing Director of Forensic Accounting Services (Edinburgh) Limited, a growing consultancy with a specialism in Public Sector management and organisational development. He is also a visiting lecturer with Stirling and Strathclyde Universities. Mr Renwick's previous experience includes time spent in Local Government, the private sector with Touche Ross and the NHS in Scotland where he spent three years as a Trust Finance Director. He has been a member of Lothian NHS Board since 2004 and does not hold any other ministerial appointments.
Miss Lesley Jamie is a Chartered Accountant and head's up Scott-Moncrieff's Business Consultancy Team. She specialises in performance reviews and within the public sector also best value reviews. Miss Jamie's work in the public sector has spanned over the past 12 years and it specifically includes reviews in the NHS, local government and central government. She has been a member of Lothian NHS Board since 2004 and does not hold any other ministerial appointments.
Mr David Belfall is a retired civil servant with a background in housing, health and other social policy issues. He is a past Chair of the Glasgow Council for the Voluntary Sector and is currently a member of the management committee of Abbeyfield Scotland Ltd. Since 2002 he has been a member of the Scottish Criminal Cases Review Commission, for which he receives a fee of £243 a day. He has been a member of Lothian NHS Board since 2004.
Mr Renwick's and Miss Jamie's appointment will be for a period of four years from April 1, 2008 to March 31, 2012. Mr Belfall's appointment will be for a period of two years from April 1, 2008 to March 31, 2010. The posts are part time with a time commitment of eight hours per week for which the annual remuneration is £7,748.

TAYSIDE NHS BOARD
Mr John Angus retired from Local Government in September 2003 after 40 years sevice. He is currently Chair of the Perth and Kinross Community Health Partnership and is a member of the local Community Planning Partnership. He has also been a Member of Peer Review Panels established by NHS Quality Improvement Scotland, and remains on their list. Mr Angus has been a member of Tayside NHS Board since 2004 and does not hold any other ministerial appointment.
Mrs Elizabeth Forsyth is the Manager of Lippen Care, a locally based charity in Angus that works in partnership with the NHS to provide palliative care. She is widely experienced in many aspects of the voluntary sector at national and local levels. Her previous experience includes Rehabilitation of Offenders, Family Mediation, Citizen Advice Bureau and the Wishart Centre in Dundee. She is particularly interested in the voluntary sector and carer issues and Chairs the NHS Tayside Spiritual Care Forum. She has been a member of Tayside NHS Board since 2004 and does not hold any other ministerial appointments.
Mrs Betty Ward works in the Offices of a Coach Hire company in Dundee. She is also Convener of the Board of the Volunteer Centre Dundee. Her previous experience includes 18 years as an Elected Member of Dundee City Council and the previous Tayside Regional Council and during this time she held the positions of Finance Convener and Social Work Convener and was actively involved with a wide range of voluntary organisations in Tayside. She has been a member of Tayside NHS Board since 2004 and does not hold any other ministerial appointments.
Mr Murray Petrie is a retired Chartered Surveyor. He has been a member of Tayside NHS Board since 2004 and is currently Vice-Chair. He was formerly Chairman of Tayside Primary Care NHS Trust and has held a number of other public and charitable positions. He does not hold any other ministerial appointments.

Ministerial appointments were made in accordance with Commissioner for Public Appointments in Scotland (OCPAS) Code of Practice.
All appointments are made on merit and political activity plays no part in the selection process. However, in accordance with the original Nolan recommendations, there is a requirement for appointees' political activity (if any declared) to be made public. Within the last five years, Mr Martin Cheyne has canvassed on behalf of the Conservative Party, Ms Pamela Courcha has canvassed on behalf of the Scottish National Party and Mrs Betty Ward has canvassed on behalf of the Labour Party. None of the other appointees have been involved in any political activity.
