Figures show progress on recycling

Figures released today show that Scotland is continuing to make good progress with more than one million tonnes of waste being diverted from landfill.
The rolling year recycling performance for October 2006 to September 2007 is 30.5 per cent. This is up from 29.8 per cent for the rolling year from July 2006 to June 2007.
Cabinet Secretary for the Environment Richard Lochhead said:
"In last month's Waste Statement to Parliament, I set out a number of ambitious targets for the future of recycling and landfill in Scotland.
"Individuals have a responsibility to recycle waste where they can and a commitment to recycle more is one of the pledges in our Greener Scotland campaign.
"Today's figures reaffirm the sense that we are seeing an increasing appetite for recycling from the Scottish public and I congratulate householders across Scotland on their achievements so far.
"I have made £7.5 million available over the next three years to support community recycling projects, with the aim of making it even easier for people to recycle and to help us achieve our ambitious targets."
