Cabinet Secretary for Health and Wellbeing, Nicola Sturgeon, today announced three new non-executive member appointments to Lothian NHS Board.
Ms Moi Ali is a Communications Consultant who has written a number of best selling books on public relations and marketing. She is the Vice President of the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC), the world's largest healthcare regulator, for which she may receive a daily fee of up £260 - payable when on NMC business. Ms Ali is also a member of the Lord Chancellor's review bodies, which investigate complaints about judges and magistrates, for which she receives a daily fee of £300. Ms Ali also spent six years on the Board of Postwatch, the consumer council for postal users.
Professor Morag Prowse is Dean of the Faculty of Health, Life and Social Sciences at Napier University, Edinburgh. She is an academic and a registered nurse and has held previous senior posts in the NHS as a clinical nurse specialist in Anaesthesia/Pain management. She has strong links with medicine, dentistry and a range of health and social care professions from previous academic posts at the University of Plymouth and the University of Wales - she has published nationally in clinically applied research related to pain management. Professor Prowse does not hold any other Ministerial appointments.
Mr George Walker has a B.Sc. Honours degree from the University of Glasgow and a Masters in Business Administration (MBA) from Edinburgh University Business School. He is currently Global Head of Business Development at Standard Life Investments. He has extensive management and business experience including over 16 years in the investment sector in addition to a number of years working in the pharmaceutical industry. He has previously been a member of a number of boards and committees in the voluntary sector in both the UK and the USA. He does not hold any other ministerial appointments.
All three appointments will be for a period of four years from February 1, 2008 to January 31, 2012.
These posts are part time with a time commitment of eight hours per week for which the annual remuneration is £7,620.
Lothian NHS Board is responsible for the strategic planning of health services and the development of measures to improve the health of the community in the Lothian area.
These ministerial appointments were made in accordance with the Commissioner for Public Appointments in Scotland's Code of Practice.
All appointments are made on merit and political activity plays no part in the selection process. However, in accordance with the original Nolan recommendations, there is a requirement for appointees' political activity (if any declared) to be made public. Within the last five years, none of the appointees have taken part in any political activity.
