Exclusions from schools 2006/07
29/01/2008
Scotland's Chief Statistician today published a range of statistics relating to exclusions from Scotland's schools.
The main findings are:
- During 2006/07 there were 44,794 exclusions from local authority schools in Scotland. This equates to six exclusions per hundred pupils and is a four per cent increase from 2005/06
- About 23,000 different pupils (three per cent of pupils) were excluded during the year
- Various factors such as deprivation, having additional support needs and being looked after by the local authority increase the likelihood that a pupil will be excluded
