Minister comments on harvest statistics
10/01/2008
Statistics showing the final estimate of 2007 cereal and oilseed rape harvest were published today.
Cabinet Secretary for Rural Affairs and the Environment Richard Lochhead said:
"I welcome today's publication of the final estimate of cereal and oilseed rape for 2007, which indicate Scotland's cereal harvest has been relatively strong. At the same time, I recognise that this was a difficult year for many farmers with adverse weather conditions, foot and mouth, blue tongue and increasing costs.
"I look forward to the next year's harvest figures, where we will be looking for production levels to remain robust - especially now that set-aside land can be used for production."
