Emergency services praised

Justice Secretary Kenny MacAskill today congratulated all the members of the emergency services who were involved in the operation to extinguish the major chemical fire at Stevenston in Ayrshire.
Mr MacAskill was in contact with Brian Sweeney Chief Officer for Strathclyde Fire and Rescue to pass on the Scottish Government's thanks for all the efforts of the fire service and police in ensuring that the fire was brought under control and the work carried out to ensure there was no danger to the public
He said:
"All year round, throughout the country, the unsung heroes of our fire and rescue services are involved in fighting fires, saving lives and livelihoods.
"This major fire has helped demonstrate the kind of dangers these brave men and women face on a daily basis.
"I want to put on record this Government's respect for the work the emergency services carry out every day. I particularly want to congratulate those involved in bringing this fire under control so quickly and effectively."
