Further relaxations in movement ban

10/08/2007

Further relaxations in the movement ban of susceptible animals have been implemented across Scotland in the interests of animal welfare.

Pregnant cows, sows and weaned pigs can now be moved within farm premises to others parts of the same premises.

Other relaxations apply to deer carcasses.

Restrictions on removal of fallen stock have also been revised. Until now animals in Scotland could be buried on site and this will continue to be allowed until midnight on Sunday.

However, fallen stock can from today be collected by contractors from farm entrances by authorised vehicles, subject to strict disinfectant and other bio security measures. The general ban on all other movements in relation to the current foot and mouth outbreak still applies and will be rigorously enforced.

Farmers and all others connected with the industry have been reminded to remain vigilant and maintain all other protective measures already in place.

The Scottish government helpline for farmers is - 0845 1553366.
