NHS National Services Scotland

07/08/2007

The annual review of NHS National Services Scotland (NSS) will go ahead tomorrow with Health Secretary Nicola Sturgeon in attendance.

NSS manage and provide key support services including blood transfusions, cancer screening, vaccination programmes and legal advice to NHS Boards in Scotland.

While on the visit the Cabinet Secretary will be shown the Open Learning Centre and look at the ways that NHS Boards can access key health data including national waiting times information and readmission rates.

Ms Sturgeon said:

"I am looking forward to visiting NSS which provides critical functions across almost every area of the health service from the vital work of The Scottish National Blood Transfusion Service to cancer screening and advances in eHealth.

"The annual review allows the public the opportunity to examine the work that is being done and assess the effectiveness of the service. It is right that those who manage our NHS boards are held to account in a way that is accessible and transparent.

"These meetings will provide opportunities to question the key decision-makers, who are delivering health services across Scotland."
