Historic Environment Advisory Council

19/06/2007

Two members of the Historic Environment Advisory Council for Scotland have received extensions to their terms of office.

They are:

Neil Galbraith OBE, an education systems consultant and policy advisor. Mr Galbraith is currently a Director of the Scottish Coastal Archaeology and Problem of Erosion Trust and Director and Chairman of the Lewis and Harris Building Preservation Trust. He does not hold any other Ministerial appointments.

Eleanor McAllister is managing director of Clydebank Re-Built Ltd, an urban regeneration company and has worked for over 20 years in the west of Scotland developing and implementing regeneration projects. Ms McAllister is a Non Executive Director of Architecture and Design Scotland and Chair of the Research Committee.

The extensions will be for three months and will run from June 1 to August 31.

The posts are part-time and are not remunerated.

The Historic Environment Advisory Council for Scotland came into being on June 1, 2003. It was established by Scottish Ministers as a new advisory Non Departmental Public Body to provide independent strategic advice on issues affecting the historic environment, including structures; places of historical; archaeological and architectural interest.

These extensions were made in accordance with the Commissioner for Public Appointments in Scotland's Code of Practice.

All appointments are made on merit and political activity plays no part in the selection process. However, in accordance with the original Nolan recommendations, there is a requirement for appointees' political activity (if there is any to be declared) to be made public. Within the last five years Eleanor McAllister has canvassed on behalf of and made a recordable donation to the Scottish Labour party. Neil Galbraith declared no political activity within the last five years.
