Climate change discussions
18/06/2007
Today saw the first meeting between Scottish Climate Change Minister Stewart Stevenson and UK Secretary of State for the Environment David Milliband.
Mr Stevenson reiterated the Scottish Government's commitment to tackling climate change and vowed, where possible, to work with the UK government.
He outlined the Government's commitment to a Scottish Climate Change bill and informed the UK government that he would be setting out more details on Thursday in Parliament.
Mr Stevenson said:
"Our approach to climate change is long term and strategic. The commitments we make now in terms of reductions in emissions will see many sessions of parliament and many administrations before 2050. For that reason it is vital we ensure a broadly based consensus which transposes geography, politics and the whole of society. The decisions we take now must be deliverable for future generations."
