Advice for fisheries organisations

25/04/2007

Following an updated precautionary statement from the Food Standards Agency advising people not to eat fish or shellfish caught in the Firth of Forth, the Executive continues to advise that no fishing activity should be undertaken in the area affected by the recent sewage spillage.

The Fisheries Protection vessel 'Jura' has been patrolling the Firth of Forth since yesterday to help communicate this advice to fishing vessels based in the area.

The measures in place to protect public health and the environment will continue to be reviewed in light of emerging advice from the Food Standards Agency and Scottish Environment Protection Agency.
