Mr Hardie (56) is the Chairman and Managing Director of Paterson Arran, the biscuit, preserve and mustard production company based in Livingston. Paterson Arran is a successful supplier to the multiples, the food service sector and the export market.

He has been a significant contributor to the Scottish Food and Drink Strategy Group since its inception and he also serves on the Local Advisory Board for Careers Scotland on a voluntary basis.

He was first appointed to the Council of Food from Britain in June 2004 for a three year term and his reappointment means he will now serve until May 2010.
