Health Minister Andy Kerr today announced the re-appointment of Mr William Brackenridge as Chair of the Scottish Ambulance Service Board.
Mr Kerr said:
"I am very pleased to announce this re-appointment. Mr Brackenridge has made extremely valuable contributions to the NHS in Scotland. I look forward to continuing to work together with him in the vital task of improving the health of the people of Scotland."
Mr Brackenridge spent 25 years as a Management Consultant working on people issues in a range of sectors, but mostly the oil industry and the Health Service. He is also a Member of the Board of NHS Highland, a post for which he receives £7,620 p.a., where he chairs the Argyll & Bute Community Health Partnership Committee.
He chairs the Helensburgh Partnership - an initiative, sponsored and financed by Argyll & Bute Council and Scottish Enterprise, Dunbartonshire to re-vitalise the town centre and waterfront of Helensburgh.
Mr Brackenridge's re-appointment will be for a period of two years from July 1, 2007 to June 30, 2009.
This post is part time with a time commitment of around three days per week for which the annual remuneration is £23,930.
The Scottish Ambulance Service is responsible for the provision of accident and emergency services to respond to 999 calls and the Patient Transport Service, which performs an essential role in taking patients to and from their hospital appointments.region, including the air wing helicopter service for transfer in remote areas.
This Ministerial appointment was made in accordance with Commissioner for Public Appointments in Scotland (OCPAS) Code of Practice.
All appointments are made on merit and political activity plays no part in the selection process. However, in accordance with the original Nolan recommendations, there is a requirement for appointees' political activity (if any declared) to be made public. Mr Brackenridge was elected as an Independent candidate to Helensburgh Community Council in 2002 and he resigned from this position in 2006.
