Partnership Agreement update
29/12/2006
The Executive today published its update on progress against Partnership Agreement targets. It shows 97 per cent of pledges (437 out of 450) have been met or are on track.
Achievements include:
All health waiting times targets met and deaths from Scotland's top three killer diseases down significantly since 1999
- Strong economic growth since May 2003
- Introduction of Scotland-wide free bus travel for older people and those with a disability
- The ban on smoking in public places
- Largest ever programme of school building and renewal
- Reduced crime in Scotland
First Minister Jack McConnell said:
"We are making good progress - our ambitious programme is delivering real improvements to people's lives. Our Partnership Agreement was a huge programme and we have met or are on track to deliver more than 95 per cent of our pledges.
"But these numbers do not tell the real story, which is our work to transform lives and life chances."
Deputy First Minister Nicol Stephen said:
"While the devolved government is setting the lead, it is the massive commitment of those working in our public services which is turning policy into action and improving lives.
"We accept there is more still to be done - and we are determined to complete the Partnership Agreement and to go on delivering what the people of Scotland want."
The original Partnership Agreement was drawn up in May 2003 detailing plans and priorities for the coalition government formed by the Labour and Liberal Democrat parties.
