Health Minister Andy Kerr today announced the appointment of Mr Grant Carson as a member of Greater Glasgow and Clyde NHS Board.

Mr Carson is the Manager, Housing and Employment Services with Glasgow Centre for Inclusive Living, a user-led organisation providing a range of independent living support services to disabled people across Glasgow. He is a committee member of a number of voluntary organisations and is vice-chair of Margaret Blackwood Housing Association. His previous experience includes disability equality, welfare rights and research posts. He has had personal experience of disability since childhood. He does not hold any other ministerial appointments.

Mr Carson's appointment took effect on December 1, 2006 and will be for four years until November 30, 2010.

This post is part time with a time commitment of eight hours per week for which the annual remuneration is £7,490.

Greater Glasgow and Clyde NHS Board is responsible for the strategic planning of health services and the development of measures to improve the health of the community in the Greater Glasgow and Clyde region.

This Ministerial appointment was made in accordance with Commissioner for Public Appointments in Scotland's (OCPAS) Code of Practice.

All appointments are made on merit and political activity plays no part in the selection process. However, in accordance with the original Nolan recommendations, there is a requirement for appointees' political activity (if any declared) to be made public. Within the last five years, Mr Carson has not been involved in any political activity.
