Euro funding for West of Scotland
08/11/2006
The West of Scotland is to benefit from a further £2.2m through the most recent round of European Structural Funds (ESF).
Deputy Minister for Enterprise and Lifelong Learning Allan Wilson announced that 20 projects so far have been confirmed in this round which will focus on social regeneration for their areas.
Up to £7.8m will be allocated to projects in this 18th round once they have completed the approval process bringing the total West of Scotland funding to £314m.
Mr Wilson said:
"This ESF investment is good news for the West of Scotland - benefiting both individuals and communities through training and skills development projects.
"One project, HNC Social Care for Housing Support Workers, will receive £62,473 to offer specialised college training to 20 local people. This will result in more social care professionals for the community and promote the value of lifelong learning.
"In addition, Three Towns ILM Childcare Project in North Ayrshire will receive £144,512 to train over 40 local single parents to SVQ level 2. I'm pleased to see this programme offering real opportunities to get people back into the job market and ultimately benefit their community through increased childcare places.
"Improved childcare provision is vital to enable single parents to access employment. We need to ensure that not only new job opportunities are created but also realistic measures are in place to help people meet their childcare responsibilities."
"The projects included in this latest investment will make a positive difference to people in the West of Scotland - that's what ESF is about."
This investment is from the Western Scotland Objective 2 Programme.
