Prince's Trust 30th anniversary

30/08/2006

The 30th anniversary of the Prince's Trust Scotland, a charity that helps young Scots make the most of their potential, was celebrated at a reception at Edinburgh Castle last night.

First Minister Jack McConnell said:

"On the Prince's Trust 30th Anniversary, I would like to thank everyone who has been involved for all they have done to make a difference to so many young lives.

"Over three decades, the Prince's Trust has shown that, with the right opportunities and support, every young person can contribute not only to their own lives, but also to their families, their schools, their local community - and to Scotland as a whole.

"Scotland has changed a great deal over the last thirty years - today there are more opportunities than ever before. But I know that there are still some young people - for whatever reason - who are left behind. As Scotland's First Minister, I cannot accept that - and I'm determined to do all that I can to help ensure that all young Scots find a way to make the most of their talent and their potential.

"And that is exactly why we recently launched Scotland's first ever action plan aimed at reducing the proportion of young people not in education, employment or training. The Prince's Trust will have a key role to play.

"So I look forward to working with the Prince's Trust for many more years. We cannot give up on anyone - Scotland's future depends on it."
