NHS Lothian Chair resigns

21/08/2006

Brian Cavanagh has resigned as Chair of NHS Lothian.

This resignation takes effect from Friday 15 September 2006.

Health Minister Andy Kerr said:

"I would like to thank Brian for the valued contribution he has made to the Board since taking up a post of Non-Executive Director in 1997 and as chair from 2001.

"NHS Lothian has faced a number of challenges and it has made significant progress in, for example, service redesign, improvement in waiting times, the health improvement agenda and sound financial planning.

"It is also appropriate to note that Brian's commitment to public service can be traced back to 1982 when he was elected as a councillor for Lothian Regional Council. I would like to take this opportunity to recognise his professionalism and commitment as Chair and his dedication to public service."

Arrangements are in place to secure the services of an Interim Chair who will lead the board until a permanent replacement can be identified.

The interim and permanent positions will be made in accordance with advice from the Office of the Commissioner for Public Appointments in Scotland and in line with its Code of Practice.
