New technology in NHS Tayside
16/08/2006
Deputy Health Minister Lewis Macdonald will find out how Tayside patients are benefiting from new technology when he visits Perth Royal Infirmary (PRI) today.
Mr Macdonald will visit the Radiology Department at PRI during a private tour of the hospital, where he will meet staff and discuss the benefits of the MRI scanner.
PRI's Radiology Department performs 60,000 examinations every year and operates a weekly one-stop breast clinic. Here, women can see a doctor, receive a scan and find out their results all on the same morning.
Speaking in advance of his visit to PRI, Mr Macdonald said:
"Technology is helping to improve patient care every day, and the radiology unit here at PRI is a good example of that. The unit performs thousands of scans every year, helping many people all over Tayside.
"The one stop breast clinic is a great facility. Women can be seen by a doctor and get their scan results on the same morning, reducing the anxious wait for results. It's initiatives like this that help our health service deliver the best possible care to patients all over Tayside."
