Health Minister Andy Kerr today announced the appointment of Mrs Sandra Smith to Lanarkshire NHS Board.
Mrs Sandra Smith has a background in community development and social housing. She has been responsible for several projects in Lanarkshire setting up community controlled housing associations and providing independent advice to tenants affected by housing transfers. Sandra is currently a member of the Mental Health Tribunal in Scotland which has a remuneration of £340 per day and contributes to the "Mentoring in Regeneration" project managed by the Scottish Council for Voluntary Organisations. Mrs Smith does not hold any other ministerial appointments.
Mrs Smith's appointment will be for four years from August 1, 2006 to July 31, 2010.
This appointment is part time with a time commitment of eight hours per week for which the annual remuneration is £7,490.
Lanarkshire NHS Board is responsible for the strategic planning of health services and the development of measures to improve the health of the community in the Lanarkshire region.
This Ministerial appointment was made in accordance with the Commissioner for Public Appointments in Scotland's Code of Practice. All appointments are made on merit and political activity plays no part in the selection process. However, in accordance with the original Nolan recommendations, there is a requirement for appointees' political activity (if there is any to be declared) to be made public. Within the last five years, Mrs Smith has not been involved in any political activity.
