British rowing championships
14/07/2006
The British National Rowing Championships take place at Strathclyde park, Motherwell, this weekend.
The championships have attracted a record number of entries with 680 crews participating - a record for the event in Scotland.
Half of the 1,704 individual competitors, from all parts of Britain, are juniors aged under 18.
Sports Minister Patricia Ferguson, who will present winning medals on Sunday, said:
"Attracting the UK's top rowing teams to this competition reinforces Strathclyde Park's standing as a world class venue, and promotes Scotland as an ideal host for major sporting events.
"Scotland's young rowing stars can only benefit from having state of the art facilities on their doorstep."
