Health Minister Andy Kerr today announced the appointment of Mrs Theresa Douglas, Dr Rebecca Strachan and Dr Alison Tierney to Lothian NHS Board.
Mrs Theresa Douglas is currently working independently within professional and organisational development in healthcare. She has many years experience of nursing and education in a variety of roles and locations throughout Lothian in both the public and private sectors. She is a member of several local committees involved in community issues. Mrs Douglas does not hold any other ministerial appointments.
Dr Rebecca Strachan has a wide background in health care clinical practice, clinical education and research. She is a member of voluntary sector organisations, is a Trustee of the Scottish Child Law Centre and Adviser to Action for Sick Children Scotland. Dr Strachan does not hold any other ministerial appointments.
Dr Alison Tierney was Professor of Nursing Research at The University of Edinburgh until 2002, and then held a three year professorial appointment at the University of Adelaide in South Australia. She continues to support nursing and health services research through various activities nationally and internationally. Dr Tierney does not hold any other ministerial appointments.
Mrs Douglas's appointment will be for four years from July 1, 2006 to June 30, 2010, and both Dr Strachan's and Dr Tierney's appointments will be for three years from July 1, 2006 to June 30, 2009.
These posts are part time with a time commitment of eight hours per week for which the annual remuneration is £7,490.
Lothian NHS Board is responsible for the strategic planning of health services and the development of measures to improve the health of the community in the Lothian region.
These Ministerial appointments were made in accordance with the Code of Practice issued by the Office of the Commissioner for Public Appointments in Scotland.
All appointments are made on merit and political activity plays no part in the selection process. However, in accordance with the original Nolan recommendations, there is a requirement for appointees' political activity (if any declared) to be made public. Within the last five years, none of the above appointees have been involved in any political activity.
