Review of ports policy
06/07/2006
The future development of Scotland's ports sector as part of long-term transport plans is to be the focus of a review.
The review, which lasts six weeks, will seek views from port and harbour authorities and other stakeholders such as Visitscotland and the Regional Transport Partnerships. It will form part of this devolved government's consultation on the National Transport Strategy.
Transport Minister Tavish Scott said:
"Scotland's ports are an essential and dynamic part of Scotland's transport infrastructure and vital to our economy. I want to see our port sector develop further, thrive and innovate.
"It is therefore right that we consider their development as an integral part of the work going on to develop a National Transport Strategy.
"I would urge everyone with an interest in our ports to contribute to this review."
As part of the consultation on the National Transport Strategy, the Executive is seeking views on a number of issues related to the future development of Scotland's ports sector.
