Sporting progress on Mull

A new sports facility dedicated to the memory of BBC political journalist Kenny Macintyre was opened today on his home island of Mull.

The multi purpose facility at King George V Public Park in Tobermory will allow people to participate in a range of sports including football, hockey, junior shinty, rugby, netball and basketball.

The opening ceremony was carried out by First Minister Jack McConnell who unveiled a commemorative plaque and kicked off a football tournament.

Kenny Macintyre died suddenly in May 1999.
