Accountant in Bankruptcy

05/06/2006

The new Accountant in Bankruptcy (AiB) offices were officially opened in North Ayrshire today.

The government agency, which oversees the bankruptcy process in Scotland, has been moved from Edinburgh to Kilwinning as part of the Executive's relocation policy.

Deputy Enterprise Minister Allan Wilson said:

"Moving the AiB from Edinburgh confirms the Executive's determination to disperse public sector jobs, and the benefits they bring across Scotland.

"The relocation of AiB to North Ayrshire has brought a much needed jobs boost to the area, with around 90 jobs located locally as a direct result of this decision.

"This will be good for the AiB and good for North Ayrshire, which will provide an excellent base for the AiB to carry out its important work."

Gillian Thompson, Chief Executive of AiB, said:

"The official opening marks the successful end of our move from East to West and the beginning of our future in Kilwinning. I am endlessly grateful to former colleagues in Edinburgh who played a big part in the transition process and am extremely pleased with the enthusiastic team we now have here and I look forward to the challenges yet to come."

The relocation of AiB was announced in December 2002. A temporary office in Irvine opened in November 2004 and staff moved into the Kilwinning office in February this year.
