Culture Minister Patricia Ferguson today announced the re-appointment of Anne Bonnar to the Board of Trustees of the National Galleries of Scotland.
Ms Bonnar is a founding director of Bonnar Keenlyside Ltd, a cultural management consultancy specialising in organisational development and recovery. Last year she led a comprehensive reform of the governance, management, finance, operations and marketing of the Abbey Theatre Dublin. S
he was previously general manager of Edinburgh's Traverse Theatre and is currently, Director of the National Theatre of Scotland. She chaired the Best Value committee of the National Galleries of Scotland.
The reappointment will be for a four year term from January 23, 2006, to January 22, 2010.
The post is part-time and is not remunerated. Board members are expected to prepare for and attend approximately six Board meetings a year and may be involved in additional meetings and events.
The National Galleries of Scotland is a Non-Departmental Public Body (NDPB) with the Chair and Board appointed by Scottish Ministers. It was established in 1906 by the National Galleries of Scotland Act 1906, as amended by the National Heritage (Scotland) Act 1985 which provides for the appointment of between seven and 12 members to the Board of Trustees, including the Chair.
The Ministerial public appointment was made in accordance with the Commissioner for Public Appointments in Scotland's Code of Practice.
All appointments are made on merit and political activity plays no part in the selection process. However, in accordance with the original Nolan recommendations, there is a requirement for appointees' political activity (if there is any to be declared) to be made public. Ms Bonnar declared no political activities within the last five years and holds no other Scottish Ministerial appointments.
