Local government electoral arrangements

The Local Government Boundary Commission for Scotland submitted a report today to Scottish Ministers recommending that East Lothian Council area should have seven electoral wards for the purpose of the election of Councillors.

The Commission's proposals for East Lothian Council area are as follows:

Ward 1. Musselburgh West
Forecast no. of Electors: 9,040. Number of Elected Members: 3.

Ward 2. Musselburgh East and Carberry
Forecast no. of Electors: 10,315 Number of Elected Members: 3.

Ward 3. Preston/Seton/Gosford
Forecast no. of Electors: 12,495 Number of Elected Members: 4.

Ward 4. Fa'side
Forecast no. of Electors: 13,445 Number of Elected Members: 4.

Ward 5. North Berwick Coastal
Forecast no. of Electors: 10,105 Number of Elected Members: 3.

Ward 6. Haddington and Lammermuir
Forecast no. of Electors: 10,080 Number of Elected Members: 3.

Ward 7. Dunbar and East Linton
Forecast no. of Electors: 9,865 Number of Elected Members: 3.

There are five wards each returning three members and two wards each returning four members. The number of Councillors remains unchanged at 23.

Arrangements have been made for copies of the Commission's report and illustrative maps showing the boundaries of the proposed electoral wards to be deposited for public inspection at the following locations:

  • Dunbar Library, Castellau, Dunbar
  • John Muir House, Court Street, Haddington
  • Brunton Hall, Ladywell Way, Musselburgh
  • North Berwick Library, The Old School, School Road, North Berwick
  • Area Office, Aldhammer House, High Street, Prestonpans
  • Area Office, 8 Civic Square, Tranent
