Executive's environmental performance
19/12/2005
The fifth annual report on the environmental performance of the Executive during 2004-05 was published today.
Finance and Public Service Reform Minister Tom McCabe said it showed that the Executive was continuing to make progress to reduce the impact of its activities on the environment.
The new format of this year's report summarises key areas of the Executive's operations and also includes supporting data in order to make the reporting process more transparent. It also details future environmental challenges to be faced by Executive staff over the next few years.
Mr McCabe said:
"General 'every day' activities in the workplace can have a considerable impact on the environment. The Executive and its staff have a crucial role to play in meeting the demanding targets we have set ourselves as we strive for continuous improvement in our environmental performance."
"Through this report, the Executive both demonstrates a positive contribution to reducing the impact of our operations and identifies the challenges that lie ahead with a revised set of targets for 2006/07 and beyond.
Ross Finnie, Minister for Environment and Rural Development, said:
"The Executive published its sustainable development strategy last week. That strategy underlines our commitment to work towards a cleaner healthier and safer Scotland. There is no one action or policy that will address the wider sustainability issues faced by Scotland but through better environmental practices and managing the impacts of our own activities we are making a positive contribution."
