Film competition winners
02/12/2005
The winners of an Executive film competition will this weekend have their film screened at the Cameo Cinema in Edinburgh to coincide with the campaign to reduce alcohol-related harm this festive season.
Edinburgh students Greg Smith and Matt Zitron, who are currently studying Media and Cultural Studies at Queen Margaret University, won the nationwide competition earlier this year.
Their synopsis used dark comedic techniques to convey the responsible drinking message. They were then commissioned to make the film at the Executive's film production unit.
The screening is part of the alcohol misuse campaign, which seeks to encourage responsible drinking and discourage over indulgence and binge drinking.
Drinking costs the Scottish economy £1.1 billion per year and Britons drink 41% more during December than at other times of the year.
The campaign over Christmas and New Year will consist of broadcast and outdoor advertising.
The film will be screened at the Cameo Cinema before each screening of 'Where the Truth Lies', the main weekend feature.
Matt and Greg also received a week's work placement at MTP, Scotland's largest commercials television production company, where they had hands-on experience in all aspects of the production process.
