Poultry keepers to get advice on avian influenza
22/11/2005
A programme of seminars for Scottish poultry keepers to help them protect their flocks against the risk of avian influenza was announced today.
The seminars will be delivered to poultry keepers across Scotland and will provide practical support in combating the risk
Announcing the details of the seminars, Rural Development Minister Ross Finnie said:
"Whilst the likelihood of avian influenza occurring in Scotland is currently low there are practical steps which poultry keepers can take in order to reduce the risk of it passing into domestic poultry."
"Scottish Executive has therefore commissioned the Scottish Agricultural College to deliver a programme of seminars across Scotland providing practical advice on avian influenza and on promoting good biosecurity.
"These seminars are part of the delivery of the Animal Health and Welfare Strategy in Scotland with the Executive working in partnership with the industry and recognising that prevention is better than cure."
