Turner Prize finalists on show in Edinburgh

22/11/2005

The Turner Prize, the UK's most prestigious contemporary art award, arrived in Edinburgh today on a tour that marks the first time it has travelled beyond the Tate Britain in London.

Commuters at Waverley Station are being invited to 'judge for themselves' over this week and write their comments on a special wall as a contribution to the nationwide debate.

Culture Minister Patricia Ferguson said:

"I am delighted to welcome Turner Prize finalists to Scotland and to Waverley Station where thousands of commuters will have the opportunity to stop and gaze at entries for one of the most fascinating and prestigious arts prizes in the world.

"There should be no barriers to the arts - everyone should have access and bringing art out of the galleries and into everyday Scottish life can only stimulate more interest and add to Scotland's identity as a hub of cultural excellence."
