Executive agency moves to Kilwinning

03/11/2005

The Agency, Accountant in Bankruptcy (AiB), has concluded negotiations with North Ayrshire Ventures on a 15-year lease for a newly completed building on Pennyburn Road, Kilwinning.

AiB is moving to Kilwinning in line with the Executive's relocation policy, under which Ministers aim to decentralise government and bring the benefit of public sector jobs to communities in need.

Following some internal work, it is anticipated the AiB will move into its new building in February 2006.

As well as sourcing the Kilwinning site for AiB, CB Richard Ellis is project managing the building's refurbishment. It features open plan accommodation, and extends to over 20,000 sq ft.

AiB's main responsibilities are to supervise the process of sequestration in Scotland and to act as trustee in bankruptcy when appointed by the Court.

Deputy Justice Minister Hugh Henry said:

"AiB's move to Kilwinning is a positive and welcome boost to the area. These are quality jobs and are going to local people. This is why the Executive's relocation policy is the right policy for Scotland.

"It's a great tribute to the skill levels in this area that the AiB have been able to recruit quality people locally to perform the important functions associated with the sequestration process."

Gillian Thompson, Chief Executive of AiB, said:

"I am delighted that we have brought the negotiations to a successful conclusion. We have been based in North Ayrshire since last November and I'm looking forward to establishing the Agency in its permanent home in Kilwinning early next year."

The AiB has been operating from a temporary office in Irvine since November 2004. Some 80 staff will move to the Kilwinning building in February 2006, however AiB anticipates further local recruitment during the first six months of 2006.

North Ayrshire Ventures (NAV) is a joint venture between North Ayrshire Council and the EDI Group.
