Enterprise Minister Nicol Stephen has announced the reappointment of Drew Ratter to the Board of Highlands and Islands Enterprise.
Drew Ratter is 53 and lives in Shetland. He has a wide range of interests, being a crofter as well as a freelance journalist specialising in agricultural matters. He is an independent member of Shetland Islands Council, and currently Chairman of Economic Development, as well as Chairman of the Board of Governance at Shetland College. He is an ordinary member of Orkney and Shetland Constituency Labour Party. He is a council member of the Scottish Consumers Council, and a Board Member of the Crofters Commission.
Mr Ratter's appointment with The Crofters Commission is a Ministerial appointment attracting annual remuneration of £6965.
The reappointment will be for three years and will run from October 1, 2005, to September 30, 2008. This post is part-time attracting a remuneration of £9,892 for a time commitment of two days per month.
Highlands and Islands Enterprise is a non-departmental public body (NDPB) and is the Scottish Executive's main vehicle for economic development in the Highlands and Islands of Scotland.
This Ministerial public appointment was made in accordance with the Commissioner for Public Appointments in Scotland's Code of Practice.
All appointments are made on merit and political activity plays no part in the selection process. However, in accordance with the original Nolan recommendations, there is a requirement for appointees' political activity (if there is any to be declared) to be made public.
In the last five years, Mr Ratter has canvassed on behalf of the Labour Party and is an ordinary member of the Orkney and Shetland Constituency Labour Party. He is an independent member of Shetland Islands Council.
