Flood defences for Edinburgh
08/09/2005
Proposals to strengthen flood defences in Edinburgh were published today.
They suggest that the flood prevention scheme for the Water of Leith proposed by the Edinburgh Council should be modified in light of the findings of a public local inquiry.
The Executive propose nine groups of modifications but will consider representations from affected parties before making a final decision.
Deputy Environment Minister Rhona Brankin said:
"There is a clear need for a flood prevention scheme to protect homes and businesses from the threat of flooding from the Water of Leith.
"The scheme in its current form is not quite ready. It is vital that we get this right, and I urge those affected to express their views on the proposals."
The consultation period ends on December 16.
