New Maternity Record
19/08/2005
The Scottish Woman-Held Maternity Record, a project to
produce a national, standardised maternity record for women
and NHS staff, was launched today.
Chief Nursing Officer Paul Martin said:
"I am delighted to be announcing the launch of the
Scottish Woman-Held Maternity Record as it will help
develop a standardised maternity record throughout
Scotland.
"Such consistency can only be a good thing for women and
staff, especially if a woman is outside her Health Board
area and has to seek medical assistance.
"This innovation has been shaped by a wide range of
input from across the sector through a consultation lead by
NHS Quality Improvement Scotland. I look forward to
witnessing the successful implementation of this project
across the country."
The project was set up in 2002 to
implement a recommendation from A Framework for Maternity
Services.
The record includes a pregnancy
record, inserts for labour and birth, postnatal record, a
maternity summary and guidance for use.
Each Board will now be able to obtain
an information pack including the record and a CD ROM so
that they can personalise the document.
